װידער אַ מאָל

Strange that when I search for װידער אַ מאָל I only get this entry: װידערהאָלן. Which led me to think that this phrase wasn't in the dictionary. This was confirmed further when I looked up straight װידער and still didn't find װידער אַ מאָל. Only once I looked up מאָל, did I see װידער אַ מאָל. I wonder if there is something wrong with the search algorithm on this website that it wouldn't take me to מאָל and only to this random entry װידערהאָלן. The website really should have taken me to מאָל to find what I was looking for.

Currently the dictionary application indexes only the "head word" of each entry, i.e. the word(s) that appear at the top. So even though װידער אַ מאָל occurs as an example of usage under "מאָל", that's not in the index, and the application can't find it.
When it can't find what the user entered, the application looks for things that are in the index, and that differ by only a few letters. This is often very useful for dealing with typos and spelling variations; unfortunately sometimes it yields useless things like װידערהאָלן.
WRT better searching, there's good news and bad news.
The good news is that I do intend to implement an improved approach to searching sometime, and I expect that the new approach will do what you're looking for here.
The bad new is that I can't predict when I will get to it. I have other projects coming up first, not to mention working for a living ...
