I've seen this word in a few Sutzkever poems now and I don't think "boulder" or "rock" is quite what he means. In one poem I'm reading now in the Togbukh/Tsviling Bruder, he is addressing an olive tree (he's a poet after all) and writes: "tseshpaltn bistu vi dayn heym der feldz".

I think the sense "cliff" or
I think the sense "cliff" or "rock face" is also part of this word's semantic range. That would make sense contextually in the Sutzkever line, I think.

Can it be used in the sense
Can it be used in the sense of a person being someone's metaphorical rock, someone to lean on?
